POSITION TITLE:        Special Education Teacher – Autistic Support  - Grades 3-5

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Valid PA certification in Special Education and identified content areas,

 

  1. Ability to effectively present information and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general

 

  1. Trained in TEACH

 

  1. Knowledge and understanding of Autism with relation to communication and social

 

  1. Ability to recognize distress/need in a student who is non-verbal.

 

  1. Ability to modify curriculum materials including core curriculum and prevocational

 

  1. Strong working knowledge of behavior management

 

  1. Ability to use de-escalation techniques to control and aggressive situation and achieve a positive

 

  1. Ability to interpret a Functional Behavior Assessment and develop a Positive Behavior Intervention

 

  1. Ability to use data collection strategies and data analysis and interpretation to monitor

 

  1. Ability to interpret, implement and use assistive technology with curricular and activities of functional activities, i.e. Big Mac switch, DynaVox, Ipad.

 

  1. Ability to attend to students personal needs related to toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene.

 

  1. Knowledge of basic sign language preferred.

 

  1. Working knowledge of universal precautions.

 

  1. Strong understanding or pre-vocational curriculum.

 

  1. Ability to create an educational environment within the room that is reflective of the educational

 

  1. Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and an ability to work with limited

 

  1. Excellent written and oral communication

 

  1. Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and

 

  1. Ability and experience working as a member of a

 

  1. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new

 

 

 

REPORTS TO:               Manager of Special Education or Building Principal  

 

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:  

 

This position is responsible for the planning and implementation of program instructional services provided to students in special education.

 

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  1. Develop and write re-evaluation reports based on the results of assessments, data collection, and review of records.

 

  1. Develop and deliver an appropriate IEP for

 

  1. Evaluate students' academic performance, behavior and social progress toward their IEP goals through data collection, student work and

 

  1. Prepare progress reports, report cards and other state/district mandated paperwork/forms within established

 

  1. Maintain accurate special education paperwork, data, and student records that are in compliance with federal and state regulations and District

 

  1. Establish and enforce rules for positive behavior, and procedures for maintaining a learning environment for

 

  1. Collaborate and communicate with parents, education personnel and other service providers to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) designed to increase student learning through specially designed instruction and accommodations for students'

 

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the curriculum, and make adaptations and modifications to meet individual

 

  1. Follow all administrative policies and rules governing

 

  1. Complete other duties as assigned by the building principal or special education

 

  1. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, following all District policies, building procedures and Pennsylvania professional code of

 

  1. Work collaboratively with co-workers; including the proper management of support staff within the

 

  1. Utilize e-mail, Microsoft Office programs, and student informational systems (i.e. IEP Writer, Student Management System, Gradebook) to manage communication, information and records.
