- Canvas Certified Educator & Administrator (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Apple Learning Coach Certification (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Demonstrated experience as an effective classroom teacher and instructional leader
- Experience supporting teacher development, instructional coaching, or professional learning
- Strong knowledge of instructional best practices, student-centered learning, and digital pedagogy
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Supervisor of Instructional Innovation serves as an instructional leader responsible for advancing high-quality teaching and learning through innovative instructional practices, teacher development, and the implementation of district instructional initiatives.
Working in collaboration with building principals and district leadership, the Supervisor of Instructional Innovation supports the continuous improvement of classroom instruction by providing instructional coaching, supervising teacher leadership structures, and monitoring instructional practices across the school.
This position exercises independent administrative judgment in supervising instructional programs, conducting classroom observations and evaluations, supporting teacher growth, and advancing district innovation initiatives that enhance student learning outcomes.
The Supervisor of Instructional Innovation plays a key leadership role in promoting modern instructional practices, supporting effective digital pedagogy, and ensuring the successful implementation of district instructional priorities. The position also serves as a lead facilitator of professional learning and digital learning systems, including ownership and implementation of district learning platforms and instructional initiatives, and participates as a member of the administrative leadership team responsible for implementing district policy and advancing instructional priorities.
In alignment with the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) initiative, this position supports digital transformation efforts by strengthening instructional practices, promoting student-centered learning, and ensuring effective integration of technology into classroom instruction. The Supervisor works alongside the building principal as an instructional leader to support school-wide instructional improvement.
ALLOCATION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Supervisor of Instructional Innovation shall allocate time and responsibilities in alignment with district priorities as follows:
70% – Professional Development and Instructional Innovation
- Lead, design, and support job-embedded professional learning focused on instructional improvement, digital pedagogy, and innovative teaching practices.
- Facilitate instructional coaching cycles including co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, observation, and reflective feedback.
- Support the development of teacher capacity through ongoing professional learning aligned with district instructional priorities.
- Lead and deliver professional development sessions for staff, including training aligned to district initiatives and instructional frameworks.
- Provide ongoing training and support for teachers in the effective use of Canvas and other instructional technologies.
- Serve as the district/site lead for the implementation and effective use of Canvas, ensuring consistency and quality across classrooms.
- Promote the use of effective digital tools and instructional strategies that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Model high-quality instructional practices and digital learning strategies in classrooms.
- Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning, including VILS-specific coaching sessions and leadership development opportunities.
- Collaborate with district leadership and Digital Promise partners to support strategic planning and implementation of digital transformation initiatives.
30% – Curriculum Fidelity, Data Systems, and Instructional Alignment
- Support and monitor curriculum fidelity to ensure alignment with district curriculum, pacing, and instructional expectations.
- Participate in and support principal data meetings, teacher data meetings, and grade-level/department data reviews.
- Attend and support common planning time meetings to ensure alignment of instruction, assessment, and interventions.
- Assist in analyzing student achievement data to inform instructional decisions and school improvement efforts.
- Support the implementation of district instructional frameworks and academic initiatives.
- Collaborate with building leadership to ensure consistency and alignment of instructional practices across classrooms.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Leadership
- Support the development and implementation of high-quality instructional practices across the school.
- Collaborate with the building principal to support school improvement goals and instructional priorities.
- Assist in the development and advancement of innovative instructional models that enhance student engagement, inquiry, and application of knowledge.
- Promote instructional practices that support student-centered learning and deeper learning experiences.
Instructional Support
- Work directly alongside teachers to strengthen instructional practices and improve student learning.
- Facilitate instructional coaching cycles that include collaborative planning, modeling instruction, co-teaching, classroom observation, and reflective feedback.
- Support teachers in designing rigorous and engaging lessons aligned with district instructional frameworks and priorities.
- Assist teachers in incorporating digital tools and modern learning strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Lead and support faculty in the integration of effective instructional practices through strategic outreach, modeling, and co-teaching.
Supervision of Teacher Leadership Structures
- Provide leadership and supervision for the school’s Teacher Core / Teacher Leadership Team (TLC).
- Facilitate collaboration among teacher leaders to strengthen instructional practice across the school.
- Support teacher leadership development and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Assist in coordinating professional learning aligned with school and district instructional priorities.
- Supervise technology assistant(s) (Supplemental Contracts).
Instructional Observation and Evaluation
- Conduct classroom walkthroughs and instructional observations to monitor instructional practices and support teacher development.
- Utilize district-aligned tools to conduct instructional walkthroughs focused on instructional practice and technology integration.
- Complete formal and informal teacher observations and evaluations in accordance with district procedures and applicable state regulations.
- Provide constructive feedback and recommendations to support teacher growth and instructional improvement.
- Collaborate with building leadership in supporting teacher development plans and instructional improvement efforts.
Implementation of District Initiatives
- Lead and support the implementation of district instructional initiatives and innovation programs.
- Serve as a lead facilitator for the rollout of district initiatives, including professional learning, communication, and implementation support for staff.
- Assist in aligning school-level practices with district priorities related to instructional innovation, digital learning, and student-centered instruction.
- Monitor progress of innovation initiatives and provide feedback to district leadership.
- Support the adoption and implementation of emerging instructional practices that strengthen teaching and learning.
Digital Learning and Instructional Innovation
- Support teachers in effectively integrating digital tools and instructional technology into classroom instruction.
- Promote instructional strategies that leverage technology to deepen learning and improve student engagement.
- Assist educators in utilizing learning platforms and instructional technologies that enhance collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
- Lead the implementation, usage, and continuous improvement of Canvas as the district’s learning management system.
- Ensure consistency and effectiveness in digital learning practices across classrooms.
- Promote student development of digital skills and competencies aligned with district goals.
- Support opportunities for student leadership in technology and STEM initiatives.
Collaboration with School Leadership
- Work in close partnership with the building principal to support instructional leadership and school improvement goals.
- Participate in instructional leadership meetings and contribute to decision-making related to teaching and learning.
- Provide recommendations to district and school leadership regarding instructional improvement and innovation initiatives.
- Support the development of a school culture that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
Program Leadership and Monitoring
- Assist district leadership in monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of instructional innovation initiatives.
- Collect and analyze instructional data to support continuous improvement efforts.
- Document and share effective instructional practices across the district.
- Contribute to documentation of progress toward VILS and district digital transformation goals.
- Maintain communication with district leadership regarding instructional progress, challenges, and opportunities.
