TITLE:      ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher

Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher to join our educational team in the Penn Hills School District. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping non-native English speakers develop their language skills and integrate successfully into English-speaking communities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid PA Reading Specialist Certification and/or English Certification with an ESL certification and/or TESOL Certification required.
  2. Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills required.
  3. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  4. Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and work as part of a team.
  5. Self-motivated; demonstrated initiative and ability to follow through with completion of tasks.
  6. Ability to build trust and positive working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups; able to promote high expectations and high quality for all staff.

REPORTS TO:               Building Principal and/or designee

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging ESL lessons that cater to the diverse needs and proficiency levels of students.
  2. Conduct ACESSS testing and all screenings including parent interviews to assess students' English language proficiency levels and determine appropriate placement and instructional strategies.
  3. Help classroom teachers to understand their role and responsibilities.
  4. Complete all necessary documentation regarding reclassification, monitoring, and re-designation procedures and rules.
  5. Knowledge and implementation of interpreting and translation requirements
  6. Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and fosters language development.
  7. Assess student progress regularly through various formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback.
  8. Develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with different learning styles and language backgrounds.
  9. Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and support staff to coordinate instruction and support services for ESL students.
  10. Utilize technology and multimedia resources to enhance language instruction and facilitate interactive learning experiences.
  11. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and stakeholders regarding student progress, goals, and program requirements.
  12. Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and research in ESL education and integrate them into instructional strategies. 

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: 

As an ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher, your primary responsibility is to instruct students who are non-native English speakers in developing their English language proficiency. You will create engaging lesson plans, facilitate classroom activities, and assess students' progress to ensure their linguistic growth.
