The Penn Hills School District, located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh is currently recruiting for a Special Education Emotional Support Teacher - High School.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Valid PA certification in Special Education and identified content areas, required.
  2. Ability to effectively present information and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general public.
  3. Ability to modify curriculum materials including core curriculum and prevocational curriculum.
  4. Strong working knowledge of behavior management principals.
  5. Ability to use de-escalation techniques to control and aggressive situation and achieve a positive outcome.
  6. Ability to interpret a Functional Behavior Assessment and develop a Positive Behavior Intervention Plan.
  7. Ability to use data collection strategies and data analysis and interpretation to monitor Behavior Improvement Plan.
  8. Working knowledge of Assistive technology, i.e. Ipad.
  9. Working knowledge of universal precautions
  10. Ability to create an educational environment within the room that is reflective of the educational process.
  11. Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and an ability to work with limited supervision.
  12. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  13. Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
  14. Ability and experience working as a member of a team.
  15. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint,  Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness  to experiment and work with new technologies.

 

REPORTS TO:               Dir. of Special Education and/or Building Principal

 

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:  

This position is responsible for the planning and implementation of program instructional services provided to students in special education.

 

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Develop and write re-evaluation reports based on the results of assessments, data collection, and review of records.
  2. Develop and deliver an appropriate IEP for students.
  3. Evaluate students' academic performance, behavior and social progress toward their IEP goals through data collection, student work and observation.
  4. Prepare progress reports, report cards and other state/district mandated paperwork/forms within established timelines.
  5. Maintain accurate special education paperwork, data, and student records that are in compliance with federal and state regulations and District guidelines.
  6. Establish and enforce rules for positive behavior, and procedures. for maintaining a learning environment for students.
  7. Collaborate and communicate with parents, education personnel and other service providers to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) designed to increase student learning through specially designed instruction and accommodations for students' needs.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of the curriculum, and make adaptations and modifications to meet individual needs.
  9. Follow all administrative policies and rules governing students.
  10. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, following all District policies, building procedures and Pennsylvania professional code of conduct.
  11. Work collaboratively with co-workers; including the proper management of support staff within the classroom.
  12. Utilize e-mail, Microsoft Office programs, and student informational systems to manage communication, information and records.
  13. Complete other duties as assigned by the building principal or special education supervisor.
