POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE:              Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:          

 

1. A Bachelor’s degree in education is required.

2. A valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in relevant content area is required (PK-4 or K-6).

3. One (1) to three (3) years of experience at the elementary level is preferred.  Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.

4. Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills required.

5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.

6. Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and work as part of a team.

7. Self-motivated; demonstrated initiative and ability to follow through with completion of tasks.

8. Ability to build trust and positive working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups; able to promote high expectations and high quality for all staff.

9. Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, while remaining logical and interpersonal.

10. Ability to negotiate and diffuse conflict.

11. Ability to effectively present information and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general public.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

A teacher must demonstrate knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies and formative and summative assessments.  The purpose of this position is to effectively engage students in the learning process and support their growth in and understanding of the specified subject matter. 

 

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Responds appropriately to emergency situations according to the Safety plan or for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns in the classroom and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Plans and prepares daily lessons that are designed based on formative assessment data and follows the prescribed curriculum. Those planned lessons must include a variety of instructional methods for the purpose of addressing individual student learning styles.
• Develops assessments that accurately reflect what a student should know, understand and be able to do and provides feedback to the student, parents and administration in a timely manner
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress regularly. Moreover, the teacher counsels students for the purpose of improving academic performance regarding their performance, attendance and other personal issues as required; including making all necessary referrals to the guidance counselors, associate principals and/or the Student Assistance Program (SAP).
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and others for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student learning
• Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment that maximizes instructional time.
• Monitors students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of growing as a professional educator.
• Reviews and implements all Specially Designed Instruction (SDI’s) and modifications for students with a learning disability in the classroom.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
