The Penn Hills School District, located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, is currently seeking Substitute Service (Recess) Paraprofessionals for the Penn Hills Elementary School. This position provides adult supervision at the elementary school during lunch and recess to ensure the enjoyment and safety of our students.

- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience interacting with children preferred
- Able to communicate with students, teachers, parents, administrators and co-workers.
- Facilitate games and activities for students.
- Model appropriate social interaction skills.
- Conscious of potential safety issues and react appropriately to prevent injuries.
- Maintain high standards of personal behavior, attendance and punctuality.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
This position is responsible for providing supervision of elementary students during lunch and recess times to help establish and maintain a calm, pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria, hallways, classroom and/or school playground and to facilitate positive social interactions among students.
PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Actively supervise children in cafeteria and at recess, both within the classrooms and on the playground, by walking around areas to monitor behavior.
- Meet students at the classroom or cafeteria door.
- Maintain discipline at recess using School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Program reinforcements and consequences.
- Model appropriate language and behavior to promote positive social interactions with and among students.
- Intervene in a calm and appropriate manner when there may be a potential problem.
- Utilize appropriate conflict management skills and attempt to de-escalate situations and solve the problems before referral.
- Maintain school equipment and report missing and/or broken equipment to office.
- Develop and monitor organized games for students.
- Reinforce safety procedures and proper equipment usage at recess.
- Adhere to the time schedule and building routine.
- Participates in training sessions (CPR, etc.) as required to improve performance.
- Be conscious of potential safety issues and react appropriately to prevent injuries.
- Report incidents to building administration (Head Teacher, Associate Principal, Principal) by completing documentation for discipline referrals (incident reports) and complete student rosters both prior to end of shift.
- Work collaboratively with staff to establish and maintain a consistent routine for the students.
- Be sensitive to and address individual student needs.
